NEW HOUSES, PLUMTREE

OCTOBER 2017

The brief was to design two large family homes on a tricky site in a village setting.

Due to the scale and proximity of buildings surrounding the site it was key to create forms that would provide variety and interest rather than monolithic structures. Influenced by the way rural buildings are often linked with steep pitched roofs and  changing eaves lines, combined with strong gable-forms and glass balconies, the design provides a traditional aesthetic with refreshing modern detailing.

The ground floors are large open-plan areas with high levels of glazing and elegant spaces. The four bedrooms upstairs benefit from large family bathrooms, en-suites, break-out spaces and great views.

At the heart of each house is a double-height space which affords views of the village cricket pitch and countryside beyond.

Estimated construction value - £700,000

Duration - 12 months
